CASTLE GATE LIFESTYLE

PRETORIA | GAUTENG

Castle Gate Lifestyle, is a modern mixed-use precinct development that occupies a prime site adjacent to the N1 highway. We were approached by RWP Taename Consulting Engineers to do a light design for the car park, 'market area’ and garden areas.

GARDEN AREAS:
The brief was low level lighting to light up the walkways and the trees. To achieve this, Thia bollards were used for the walkways, and a combination of Shuttle and Kevo accent lights with cowls was used to light up the shrubs and trees.

CAR PARK & MARKET AREA:
RLS supplied Modra mounted at 9 m. This was the most cost-effective, energy-efficient solution, in addition to giving very uniform lighting levels.
In the "Market Area," there were 2 challenges faced:
The client wanted a low-glare diffused light solution; we designed the lighting using the Argo at 5.5 m.
The client needed fairy lights attached to the poles at 5 m mounting height, with plug points at the mounting point. Instead of using a standard pole, we designed a 127 mm diameter pole for the full height as we needed to ensure the pole could withstand abnormal wind loads due to the fairy lights. Since we used a 127mm diameter pole, we were able to install IP66 plugs in the pole for power connection to the fairy lights.
