COMPONENTS

We have partnered with industry leading manufacturers to source quality components.

DIE CASTING

The highest quality aluminium alloy LM06 (CEN44100-ALSi12) is utilised to ensure prolonged corrosion resistance in the most extreme coastal conditions.

EXTRUDED ALUMINIUM

T6063 extruded aluminium currently used in internal and external architectural applications is utilised in fabrication of external poles and certain light fittings. Highly corrosion resistant, good formability and surface finish are characteristics of this material.

STEEL AND STAINLESS STEEL

High grade S355 high strength structural mild steel is used, cold rolled and seam welded. It is used for all steel and bracket fabrication. SANS 121:2000 & ISO 1461:1999. Hot dipped galvanised coating process by accredited industry approved galvanisers.

POWDER COATING

Regent's complete powder coating process is a 5 stage pre treatment chemical process, which optimises paint adhesion and increases corrosion resistance in severe climatic conditions, the chemical treatment process is monitored daily to ensure quality consistency. UV stabilised exterior Polyester powder is used in the coating process giving extended colour rendering and protective properties with excellent weather resistance. Oven recording to ISO standards to control curve times is strictly monitored for quality control.

LED COMPONENTS

LED components are sourced from world class manufacturers. All diodes are binned and PC boards are manufactured utilising aluminium core PCB (MCPCB) to ensure maximum heat conductivity and LED performance.

All LED drivers are carefully selected to match the LED specifications. Temperature testing is carefully carried out and is compliant with recommendations from Zhaga. With thermal management being a priority all modules are inserted with thermal paste to enhance heat dissipation thus ensuring extended life.

RLS develops a wide range of LED boards designed specifically to work in conjunction with various optic options and electrical components. These LED PCBs (printed circuit boards) are mostly FR4 (woven glass fabric with epoxy resin) and Aluminium substrate. FR4 PCBs are used for low - mid power LEDs and Aluminium for High powered LEDs. We also care for Zhaga Specifications.

LED OPTICS

With the advent of LED, light control has been enhanced dramatically, optics have allowed for the precise control of light distribution, giving more flexibility in application and greater control.

All LED optics can be categorised by parameters such as FWHM (Fixed Width Half Maximum), Efficiency, Materials and Lifetime. FWHM refers to the shape of a light distribution curve. The Lenses chosen by RLS are specified as automotive or medical grade PMMA (acrylic), PC (polycarbonate) or silicone. High quality materials guarantee periods of ten up to twenty years of continuous use in proximity to the UV wavelength radiation from LEDs, sunshine, moisture and physical stress.

OPTICAL COVERS AND DIFFUSERS

The glass used in all HID luminaires is tempered toughened protective glass, to withstand extreme temperatures, for both internal and external surfaces. OPTI glass is also utilised in certain products to improve the efficiency of transmitted light by 12%. In the decorative lanterns 4mm float thick glass is utilised.

ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

Lamp holders, magnetic and electronic ballasts, capacitors, ignitors and cables. We partner with world class manufacturers like Vossloh Schwabe, BJB, Helvar, Tridonic, Osram, BAG and Philips, to supply components that surpass quality and safety standards. The components bear international markings such as VDE, IMQ, EMEC, TIS etc. Cables are carefully selected from high quality manufacturers to ensure they are fit for purpose. High temperature silicone or Teflon cables are utilised in the required luminaire. Luminaires with HID lamps are wired with double insulated ignition cables.

OPTICAL REFLECTORS

Optical reflectors consist of 99.9% aluminium which are deep drawn to ensure consistency in performance. Optics have been specifically designed for maximum light output and distribution.

REFLECTORS

Spun reflectors made of 99.8% high purity aluminium with specular and matt anodised finishes to achieve different beam angles for specific luminaires and applications.

GASKET PROTECTION

We utilise post cured silicone rubber material in the production of our HID gaskets. This process minimises the out gassing (brooming) behaviour. Silicone gaskets perform in a wide temperature range -40 degrees C to +200 degrees C. Access doors and areas where heat is below 50%, uniprene 7100-55, neoprene, EPDM and SBR sponge is utilised. (Note: all these are UV stabilised).

FASTENERS AND GLANDS

All external screws are stainless steel, and heli-coils are inserted to eliminate electrolytic reaction between stainless steel and aluminium castings in areas that require maintenance. Cable glands are SABS approved to insulate IP68 ingress protection.
