SUPERSPAR Grove
NELSPRUIT | MPUMALANGA
SUPERSPAR Grove Nelspruit required a comprehensive lighting upgrade, as advancements in lighting technology over the past eight years had rendered the existing installation inefficient and inconsistent. Frequent fluorescent tube replacements—driven by lumen depreciation exceeding 30% annually—resulted in declining lux levels and an unsustainable increase in supplementary lighting.
Our solution focused on delivering high-impact product lighting while maintaining compliant general illumination levels. Careful attention was given to colour temperature selection, particularly in the bakery, where the correct CCT enhances the warm, golden tones of freshly baked goods.
Energy efficiency was a key objective. By implementing our newly launched E-Line system, we successfully reduced energy consumption to below 10W/m²—an ideal benchmark for modern retail environments—while significantly extending the “relamping” cycle to an estimated 10 years.
The Ribbed 107 lens, developed specifically for the E-Line, provides a double asymmetric light distribution, ensuring optimal illumination on products rather than floor surfaces. This enhances visual merchandising and improves overall lighting efficiency.
In areas such as the fruit and vegetable section—adjacent to the in-store seating area—we adopted a softer lighting approach. A modular E-Line solution compatible with the existing 3-phase track system ensured a comfortable yet effective lighting environment without the harshness of focused track lighting.
Leveraging the modular flexibility of the E-Line system, we incorporated corner modules to create seamless, continuous lighting layouts, whether used as pendants or connectors between linear runs.
To further optimise costs, existing ceiling cut-outs from legacy downlights were reused. The Luxon Round 200mm fittings allowed for easy retrofitting, eliminating the need for additional ceiling modifications.
The installation was executed in two phases, prioritising areas requiring minimal disruption. This phased approach reduced operational impact and allowed for a higher standard of installation quality.
