eMEDIA

JOHANNESBURG | GAUTENG

RLS was approached by CKR Electrical Engineers and Nsika Architects to design the lights for both the interior and exterior of the new eMedia Head Office building In Hyde Park.

EXTERIOR:
The Europa Post Top was chosen to compliment the crisp modern facades and the Shuttle was used to highlight certain of these facades.

INTERIOR:
Offices:

The open-plan offices were lit with the Linear Inca suspended fittings. The aim was to achieve a modern industrial look with open ceilings, suspended acoustic panels and the Linear Inca suspended in between. The effect is made more interesting in that the Linear Inca has a recessed diffuser, which gives the impression that the lights are not on but the work surfaces are well and evenly lit. In the back of house offices, the Luxon 6006 x 600 was installed, both as suspended and dropped into a ceiling tile grid.
Bathrooms:
Linear Cove lights were used in the recesses, only the light and not the light source being visible. Linear Micro recessed in the ceiling was used in the open areas.

Reception and Passage Areas:
Linear Mini was either used in short lengths as suspended lights and long lengths, up to 30m as recessed lights.
Data Rooms:
Linear Mini was suspended in the aisles between the racks of data equipment, giving good light levels on the vertical faces of the racks and the equipment they support.
Studios:
Luxon 600 x 600 was used as ambient lighting.
Studio Control Rooms:
Uno lighting system was supplied in up to 6m lengths, these were suspended 1.5m above the controllers/directors and producers work stations. A very critical requirement was that there was to be no light spill or glare from the lights and that the light was to only shine on the narrow workstation work area – this was achieved by using 10x40 degree lenses.
