MASSMART DISTRIBUTION CENTRE
BRACKENFELL | CAPE TOWN
Massmart has built a new distribution centre in Cape Town's Brackenfell neighborhood, in the Brackengate 2 district. The new cutting-edge facility has an eye-catching curved and seamless roof. The lighting design had to be effective whilst also adhering to rigorous Green Star ratings. This balance was accomplished by employing sophisticated optical lensed location luminaires in various forms, resulting in an aesthetically attractive but practical design. There was no usage of high mask illumination.
The Istria trunion mount is a compact and efficient fitting that comes with a variety of lens choices, making it suitable for this application. Using the façade and edge of the canopies to place the fitting is still the best method for providing general ambient lighting which keeps the yard free from obstructions where the trucks have to drive.
The architects were impressed with the Modra Post Top because it not only looks good but also functions well as a street and parking pole light.
The Thora G3 IP-rated high bay deviates from the standard Linear vapour proof used in most under-canopy installations. This proved to be more cost-effective and has an excellent light output.
