KIA UMHLANGA

UMHLANGA | KWAZULU-NATAL

RLS was approached by Energy Efficient Design Integration (EEDI) Electrical Engineering to design and supply the new lighting for the KIA Umhlanga showroom. The brief from HLA Architects was to have continuous Linears wrapping around the sales and admin area, from wall to ceiling. RLS developed the Strata Linear system to curve vertically down the wall. This allows the Linear light to run continuously from ceiling to wall in an organic manner.

Separating these two spaces is a striking visual detail called the "Infinity Loop" comprised of our Linear Micro 33 with Red LEDs. The loop follows the ceiling detail, wrapping around the walls and onto the floor, bisecting the sales and admin space from the vehicle showroom floor. The floor detail of the Micro 33 has a thick machined diffuser to account for foot traffic and is IP65 rated.

For the main showroom lighting, the requirement was to have a double cylindrical downlight fit within a recessed ceiling detail. RLS developed a fixing plate to mount two of our Canolux 96 surface downlights side by side. this ensures perfect spacings for all of the downlights. The showroom required a lux level of 600 lux in 4000K, and the admin and sales area required 450 lux in 3000K.

In addition, large suspended Strata Rectangles hang over the showcased vehicles at either end of the showroom, and large Pandora Rectangle surface-mounted fittings in the drive-through reception space, add extra detail for the new car collections.

All other office spaces and the back-of-house areas have the Luxon Prism 600x600 LED panels and Luxon Round 115 downlights.
