Brookes Hill in Humewood is one of the upmarket and sought after areas on the Port Elizabeth beachfront and offers residents and guests a fantastic view of Kings Beach and the coastline. The Brookes on the Bay was recently refurbished and upgraded to transform this once dilapidated and run-down building into one which would be worthy of its prominent beach location and strove to regain its status as one of the bay's more important sites. Unique lighting, our Eastern Cape agent, played a pivotal role in supplying the lighting for this project. With the inclusion into the program of both retail, restaurants and offices the design challenge lay in producing a retro-fit for the existing shell which accentuated the specific location and context of the building as a prominent 'beach front' piece of architecture whilst still remaining flexible enough to be truly mixed-use. Light and airy canopies over verandahs, open air courtyards and flowing, curved terraces serve to bring this building into the contemporary era for the bay as a whole.
