The Whale Bone Pier better known as the Umhlanga Pier was declared by CNN as the "Best In World!" and "world’s most beautiful pier" in 2014. This accolade was made after CNN proclaimed Durban one of the world’s most underrated cities. We were approached by African Spear to upgrade the previously dilapidated and old technology lighting due to its poor effect and limited maintenance restrictions. We developed the Vala Accent lighting luminaire at 1200mm to be surfaced mounted between arches. We maintained the colour effect by using a Blue LED with a 48° beam angle.
