Newtown Junction mixed use development in the west of Johannesburg’s CBD formed part of the city’s plan for the urban regeneration of the area which has long been established as the cultural heart of the city. The site is bounded by significant buildings including the Market Theatre, Museum Africa and Mary Fitzgerald Square as well as the M1 highway overpass and Nelson Mandela Bridge. It contains several historic structures such as the Potatoe Sheds and Edwardian railway sidings, and smaller heritage buildings such as the Majestic complex, an Edwardian toilet block, and Kippie’s Jazz Club. The solution supplied by RLS was the Sputniks with ES lampholder and PAR38 19W LED lamps.
