SOL PLAATJE UNIVERSITY
KIMBERLEY | NORTHERN CAPE
Previously referred to as the University of Northern Cape, Sol Plaatjie University opened its doors to 135 students in 2014 and is expected to expand to 7500 students by 2024. The campus is located in the heart of Kimberly and the development of an urban campus integrating into the fabric of the town was seen as the key to the urban regeneration of Kimberly.
This project consisted of fittings that include Luxon square and round fittings with flicker-free power supply for task lighting, Linear suspended and recessed lighting in large spaces with constant-current light source ensuring consistent light output over longer lengths. The Solo, Mitec, Elux and Beam fittings were used for precise even lighting throughout.
We worked closely with Insite Landscape Architects, Savage + Dodd Architects and Civil Sense Consulting Engineers to supply cost-effective, highly energy-efficient lighting that lends itself to a unique design and aesthetic style. The exterior of the building made use of Europa Post Tops at 15-degree angles and mounted to height of 5m to line its walkways and open areas. These exterior fittings maintain up to 10kA surge protection.
