The V&A Waterfront is one of Africa’s most visited destinations, situated in the oldest working harbour along the Atlantic shore, with the iconic Table Mountain as its backdrop.
CLOCKTOWER PRECINCT:
RLS supplied Europa single and double fittings in this area to give the Clocktower Precinct a contemporary yet modern feel. The light levels required were achieved with our RLS360 lens with a mounting height of 4m.
NOBLE SQUARE:
Pays tribute to South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Nkosi Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, FW De Klerk and Nelson Mandela. We reused the existing timber poles and mounted the Sputnik trunion 38W 38º 3000K with an anti-glare cowl to illuminate the larger-than-life sculptures. In addition, RLS supplied a bespoke Large Inground Mite with RGB BluTECH Casambi control that gives the waterfront team flexibility in creating different themes.
ALFRED MALL:
Alfred Mall attracts international and local shoppers and the brief was to highlight and showcase its architecture with accent lighting. RLS supplied a combination of Brite 100 8W 3000K and Shuttles 25W 20º to highlight the columns and heritage aspects of the mall. The Brite 130 14W 3000K illuminates the trees and our Sliver 1800mm 42W 3000K illuminates walkways, with a simple but effective design. The bench areas were illuminated to highlight the history and direction details around the mall. With the benches being round, we supplied over 300 metres of 9.6W 3000K Neosil. The Neosil was the perfect product that would achieve the bends without any dark spots.
