CENTURY CITY BRIDGES
CAPE TOWN | WESTERN CAPE
In the world of architectural design, perhaps nothing is more practical than a bridge. Bridges are, without a doubt, objectively impressive feats of architecture. But, just because they must be functional does not mean they have to be ordinary in design. Unbeknownst to many, light is one of the most important elements in architecture and design.
Over the years functional replacements had been carried out leading to the loss of many original parts and an unsympathetic refurbishment of the 70W SON scheme.
The new scheme needed to provide uniform lighting across both the bridges as well as reduce energy consumption as part of Century City’s carbon reduction commitment. The Tuscan 72W mounted on the Century post was supplied. Light distribution in this fitting is symmetrical or asymmetrical and is used to provide a predominantly functional purpose in guiding or leading people and vehicles.
