MANGAUNG GREAT CITY HALL
BLOEMFONTEIN | FREE STATE
The City Hall went up in flames on 21 June 2017 after municipal workers started a fire in the building. The hall was originally designed by Sir Gordon Leith and built in 1935.
BESPOKE LARGE CENTRE LIGHT
The large centre light consists of 68 918mm x 746mm brass LED panels, which are controlled using a DALI system. The panels are all RGBW and can have set scenes creating the different moods required. This entire ceiling light was recreated using nothing but old photographs and guidance from Roodt Architects.
BESPOKE LARGE GALLERY LIGHT
The large rectangular gallery light measures 11m x 5m and consists of 200mm LED half rounds with decorative brass strips and is also controlled with DALI. This light was recreated based on information gathered from old photographs as well as the guidance from Roodt Architects.
BESPOKE MIRROR LIGHTS
The remains of one of the mirror lights was removed from the burnt structure and sent to RLS where our design team started on recreating the light to be as close to its former glory as possible. The design team used the old sample of the Lamp holder as well as old photographs for reference. The finished result was an LED mirror light with a brass lamp holder and acrylic tube.
BESPOKE SURFACE MOUNTED LIGHTS
Bespoke 900x900 surface mounted 4000K LED lights were designed and manufactured for the foyer and have intricate laser-cut detailing on the decorative frames.
BESPOKE WALL LIGHTS FOR GENERAL LIGHTING
Bespoke 300x300 square wall lights with 4000K LED and decorative aluminium frames to match the 900x900 light fittings in the foyer were created for general lighting and powder coated to resemble brass. Bespoke 600mm half round lights with 4000K LED, were also designed based on the gallery light concept and were used as general lighting as well.
BESPOKE OCTAGON LIGHT
The Regent design team designed two large 900x900 Octagon surface mounted lights with 4000K LED complete with decorative frames to match the 900x900 surface mounted lights in the foyer. These lights were installed at the ladies and men’s bathrooms.
BESPOKE WALL LANTERNS
The remains of two of the old Brass wall lanterns were removed from the site and sent to RLS where our design team started refurbishing the old lights and using them to design and recreate two exact replicas in aluminium using a process called sand casting, for the fine decorative detail. The frames of the two original wall lanterns were refurbished, restored and fitted with new acrylic diffusers and LED.
